The folks over at ComingSoon have published a very informative interview with Ratatouille director Brad Bird. Here’s a sample question:
ComingSoon.net: You weren’t involved with this project from the beginning. When did you come on board?
Brad Bird: It started with Jan Pinkava who won the Oscar for a short called “Geri’s Game” and he was working on it when I first came up to Pixar in 2000 to do “The Incredibles” and was developing it through the whole time I was making “The Incredibles.” As part of Pixar’s sort of story group, we look at each other’s work during the times that films are being developed to give each other fresh eyes. So I was aware of the film and participated in the development of the film from that sort of perspective the whole time it was being made. But, a little over a year and a half ago, everyone loved the film, they loved the idea of the film, they loved the world and the collection of character types. But, the story was not coming together the way they wanted it to.

AWN has a very good interview with ‘Simpsons’ writer Carolyn Omine. It’s definitely worth reading. Here’s one of the many questions she answers:
So, if I am interested in being a writer for animation, what steps would I take?
Carolyn: Get people to read them. Keep improving them. I’m often given scripts to read and I don’t have a lot of times to read scripts by new writers (I can barely keep up with all the reading I have to do for my job), but when I have read someone’s script and I give notes — I am shocked at how often that is met with such resistance.

Following his initial recording session for Batman: Year One, McKenzie took some time to discuss the film, the character, Adam West and more…
What was your initial reaction to being offered the role of Batman?
BEN MCKENZIE: When I got the offer for Batman: Year One, I was very excited because I really like this particular take on Batman. It’s a darker take – a Frank Miller take – on the origin story. And I think it’s fun to play the character in a way that it is more reminiscent of his being a real vigilante. He’s a tough, tortured soul who is exacting revenge upon a criminal element that took something very important away from him. As an actor, this role gives you a little bit more backstory, so you have the chance to play him as a real person, albeit a person who is a little bit mentally unstable, perhaps, but heroic nonetheless. It’s exciting to get to play a character who is so specifically intense and unusual.
